Ruth Katherine Gulrich

January 4, 1928 - January 30, 2017

Ruth Katherine Gulrich 89, was born January 4, 1928 in Ridgely, Maryland to Otis Morris & Katie Starkey. Ruth died, Monday, January 30th at her farm home where she resided for the past 69 years. She died surrounded by her loving family and under the exceptional care of Dr. Patricia Karnes-Amzibel, whom she loved. Ruth was born on the family farm in Ridgely, Maryland and was the youngest of six children. She graduated from Ridgely High School in June 1944 and started working for the FBI in Washington D.C., in the same year. Ruth met her husband, Mathew Andrew Gulrich, Sr. in 1945, and they were married on April 5, 1947, until his death in 1993. Soon after their marriage, they moved and established the current family farm, where they raised their family. Whether Ruth was in the kitchen preparing meals for her family or caring for her children, she was also Mathews hard-working companion on the dairy farm. From the establishment of the dairy farm, Ruth worked equally side by side whether it was in the dairy milking or tending to the calves, chickens, hogs, or driving the tractors planting or harvesting the crops, Ruth could be found diligently working on the farm and was dedicated to its success. Ruth was also an avid Orioles fan, Brooks and Cal were her all-time favorites, and she attended many games with her family including the 1993 All-Star Game with her three sons. If she wasnt at the game, she was watching it from her television. Those who knew Ruth well, would never call or disturb her during a game. You were always welcome to come watch with her! Ruth was a lover of sports, especially Maryland teams, unless of course they began to lose badly or were not playing their best, she would then change the channel to her Westerners or History channel. She also loved horse racing, and even attended the 2009 Preakness. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Mathew, in 1993, and her son, David, in 1962, as well as her siblings Julia Meredith, Ellen Griffin, George Morris, Otis Morris, and Cookman Morris. She is survived by her five children: Karen (Wayne) Durham, Goldsboro, MD, Mathew (Brenda) Gulrich, Jr., Marydel, MD, Lee Gulrich, Alamogordo, NM, Kevin (Lynne) Gulrich, Henderson, MD, and Mary Kay (Larry) Kuchta, Palm Coast, FL, ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and expecting number eight in July as well as numerous nieces and a nephew and extended family. A funeral service will be held at Fleegle and Helfenbein Funeral Home in Greensboro on Friday, February 3rd at 2 pm with a visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow at the Greensboro Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mrs. Gulrichs name to the Goldsboro Volunteer Fire Department at 700 Oldline Road, Goldsboro, MD 21636.
