Robert Allen Smith

Robert Allen Smith Sr., 69, of Bruceton Mill, WV, formerly of Goldsboro, passed away on Thursday, May 25th, 2017 at his home. He was born on June 18, 1947 in Hempstead, New York to the late Paul A. Smith and Margaret E. DeRochemont Smith Magee. During his lifetime he lived in numerous places growing up as the son of an US Air Force veteran as well as working at odd jobs. He was baptized in 1956 at Greensboro Baptist Church and attended North Caroline High School. He was an US Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He was a lifetime member of the Caroline Memorial VFW and the American Legion #29. He loved to bowl, play pool and tend to his property in the hills of West Virginia. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Paul A. Smith, Sr and sister Patricia E. Smith James. He is survived by his wife Kathryn Schan Smith, mother of his children Barbara Dyott Bell of Denton, daughter Teri Lynn Griffith of Denton, son Robert A. Smith, Jr. of Federalsburg, sister Margaret R. Smith Murphy and husband William of Felton, DE, grandchildren Heather N. Miles Morris, William R. Griffith, Kyle M. Smith and Kevin J. Smith, great grandchildren Jack A. Griffith, Madison R. Griffith and Hunter J. Smith, nieces Carolyn and Debbie James, nephew Paul A. Smith, Jr. and numerous other nieces and nephews spread through the country. A visitation for Robert will be held from 5:00 to 6:00 PM Tuesday, May 30th, 2017 at Fleegle & Helfenbein Funeral Home, Greensboro. The funeral service will follow the visitation at 6:00 PM. Interment will be at Greenmount Cemetery.
