February 14, 1976 - October 2, 2019
Karen Leigh Cephas (nee Muter), age 43, departed this life unexpectedly on October 2, 2019 at her home in Queen Anne’s, MD. Karen was born on February 14, 1976 in Baltimore, MD to John Louis Muter and Barbara Ann Hatfield who predeceased her in death. Karen is survived by her beloved husband Anthony Cephas, daughter Anna Mae Cephas, son Eddie Boyce, daughters by love, Taylor Gawne (Colby Hammon), Jessica Knotts and Mae Harrington, granddaughter by love, Raelynn Joy Hammon and a host of young children that looked up to Karen as a mom. Karen was a loving mother, wife, friend and second mother to many. She enjoyed life with a passion and was always ready for a new adventure. Karen enjoyed everything nature had to offer. Her love of animals was only second to her love of family. She was active in Jack Russell Terrier trial by participating in and organizing events. Her love of horses was in her blood, inherited by her mother. When her daughter Anna was 9, Karen got her involved in 4-H. This is were Anna’s love of horses began. Taylor took Anna and Karen under her wing and taught them everything there was to know about caring for horses. After several years, Karen and Taylor took on the opportunity of opening their own horse boarding facility. Karen would be there every day along with Anna and Tony, taking care of the horses and watching Anna ride and learn new skills. She was the happiest when watching Anna during her horse events. Karen would travel with Anna and her “kids” to barrel racing and rodeo events along the east coast. She also became one of the beloved 4-H mothers to all in the Wags and Whinny 4-H club. Karen loved to cook. She would have Saturday family dinner nights where she would cook enough food for an army. She enjoyed sewing. She would make blankets and beds for her many dogs. She also enjoyed her after diner time with her husband Tony. She enjoyed her Peach Crown Royal and Tony had his Hennessy on the rocks. Karen had a heart of gold. She would go out of her way to help others, even if it meant she would go without. She was known as Mom to may outside her biological family. You could always depend on her to be there when you needed her the most. Funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2019 beginning at 10:00am with a service at 11:00am at Fleegle and Helfenbein Funeral Home, 106 W. Sunset Ave., Greensboro, MD 21639. Reception following the service will be held at the Queen Anne’s County 4-H Park, 1945 4H Park Rd, Centreville, MD 21617.
