George Chalmers Bell

George Chalmers Bell of Catlett, VA passed away on February 14, 2022. He was born in Silver Creek, NY on July 18, 1951. He was the son of Phyllis and Ralph Eugene Bell. In 1959, he came to Maryland and graduated from North Caroline High School in 1969. George was an outstanding athlete, excelling on the track and football teams of NCHS. Upon graduation he began his career in law enforcement. At the same time, he also became a horseshoer, his passion for rodeo earned him the 1979 and 1980 American Professional Rodeo Association Champion Steer Wrestler title. In 1991 he was seriously injured in a traffic accident. As a result, he was left as a paraplegic. He began a new career as a saddle maker and track repair, until his health forced him to retire. In recent years he owned and operated Bell’s Saddlery in Catlett, VA. George is survived by his wife Tony of 39 years, his mother, Phyllis Racz of Dover, DE; son, George Marshall of Denton, MD; granddaughter, Peyton Marshall of Rhoadesdale, MD; and sister, Deborah Bishop of Henderson, MD. As well as stepdaughter, Sylvia Johnson and step-grandsons, Christopher and John Soto of Catlett, VA. George was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Eugen Bell, Stepfather Edmund E. Racz, and niece, Jennifer Bell. A memorial Service is planned for March 5, 2022, from 1-3pm at Fleegle and Helfenbein Funeral Home located at 106 West Sunset Avenue Greensboro MD 21639.
