Raleigh "Rod" Keith Vaughan

Raleigh “Rod” Keith Vaughan - dedicated husband, father of five and friend of many passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on January 10th, 2023 at the age of 79. Rod began his life in Elmira, West Virginia on November 2nd, 1943 to Oran Dell Vaughan and Garnet Christine Vaughan (Carter). Rod had two older brothers, Arden Dell Vaughan (Rhonda), Danny Hays Vaughan (Sarah) and one younger sister, Janette Lynn Craft (Charles). Rod graduated from Braxton County High School in 1961. Rod moved to Maryland after high school. This is where he met the love of his life, Linda Louise Vaughan (Marsh). In a classic “meet-cute” straight out of a movie, Linda was Rod’s waitress at a diner, where he won her over with jokes and charm. The rest is history. They were married in Arlington, Virginia on May 4th, 1965. They built their life together in Laurel, Maryland. The two became recognized around town because they were rarely separate from one another. Rod & Linda had five children: Keith (1966), Eric (1967), Christine (1968), Lynn (1970) and Melissa (1980). Their busy home was built on a foundation of love. In his professional life, Rod was a proud business owner and operator. He built Raleigh Floors from the ground up. He owned and operated this business with success for many years until retirement. In his personal life, Rod was an avid bowler. You could always find him at the local bowling alley where Linda worked. He loved to play pool, drink beer and listen to his favorite country music. Every Sunday, you would find him cheering on his beloved football team, the then Washington Redskins. Underneath his cool guy exterior, Rod had the biggest heart. He was always incredibly generous and giving to family and friends. Truly a man of few words, he somehow knew just what to say. Always ready to crack a joke and give you a sly smile. Anyone who knew Rod knew that nothing meant more to him than his family. He was the most loving son, brother, husband, father, grandpa "papaw" and great-grandpa that anyone could ask for. Rod is preceded in death by both of his parents, his sister and brother Danny. Rod is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Linda Louise Vaughan. His children, Keith Vaughan (Karen), Eric Vaughan (Gretchen), Christine Wayne, Lynn Dunlap and Melissa Richards (Deon). His grandchildren, Gabi, Shelbi, Kyle, Eric Jr., Janette, Zach, Sheleigh, Sydnie, Christiana, Addison, Olivia and DJ. His great-grandchildren, George, Lennon, Birdie, Olive, Kai and Shamaya. His brother, Arden, sister-in-law Beverly "Becky" DeRosa and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.
