Lawrence Wilton Hignutt, Sr.

Lawrence Wilton Hignutt, Sr, of Henderson, passed away of natural causes at his home, on Wednesday June 2, 2010, he was 85. Lawrence was born February 22, 1925 in Tuckahoe Neck, Denton, MD he was the son of the late James Wilton Hignutt, passed in 1954, and Frances Madrix Hignutt Hopkins, passed in 1978. Farming was his life, during his childhood and after graduating, from Greensboro High School in 1942, he farmed with his father and he has loved and farmed ever since. Lawrence was a man of strong faith and very active in the community of which he lived, as he served as a 4-H leader of Bee Tree Club, teacher of adult Sunday school class at Trinity Methodist Church, of which he was a charter member, president of the Methodist Men, director of the Caroline County Farm Bureau, director of Farmers Bank of VA ??“ to name a few. He was also a member of the Caroline County Farm Bureau, Delaware Farm Bureau, and the Delaware Grange. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Wilson L. Hignutt, Sr., a sister Edna Blair, and his son, Lawrence Wilton Hignutt, Jr who passed October 16, 2000. Lawrence Jr., same as his father, spent his life farming right along the side of his father. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Hazel Eaheart Hignutt; his daughters Linda H. Parenteau and husband Marty and Lisa H. Wothers and husband Frank N. DeSantis, Jr; and daughter-in-law, Janet Hignutt; his six grandchildren, Eric Lawrence Hignutt and wife Donna, Kimberly Dawn Hignutt Corkran and husband Wayne, Drew Martin Wilfred Parenteau, Justin Lawrence Parenteau, Kristen Lane Wothers, and Jared Kenneth Wothers; his five great-grandchildren, Jason Hignutt, Paytyn Corkran, Maddison Corkran, Hunter Parenteau, and Sidney Parenteau; nephew Wilson L. Hignutt Jr. and wife Nancy, and niece Patricia Hignutt. Services will be 3 p.m., Saturday June 5, in the Fleegle and Helfenbein Funeral Home, 106 W. Sunset Ave., Greensboro, where a visitation will be 2 to 3 p.m. Interment will be at the Greensboro Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Lawrence may be made to the Trinity Methodist Church, 302 Church Lane, Goldsboro, MD 21636.
