Donna L. Myers-Gambrell

Donna L. Myers-Gambrell passed away peacefully in her home on the late Sunday afternoon of July 16, 2023, at the age of 70. She was surrounded by her loving family. Her departure was made to a musical tap of slowing raindrops and rumbles of distant thunder, as dark clouds gave way to rays of sunshine and a troupe of hummingbirds danced just outside the living room window she had been gazing through. Donna was born in Johnson City, Tennessee in December of 1952 to James Floyd Jones and Helen Mae Grail. The family moved to southern Maryland when she was a small child and then later to Baltimore, Maryland, where she grew up. She met and married her first husband, the father of her beloved children. He was a military man, which gave cause for frequent moves from Maryland to Pennsylvania to Mississippi, then finally returning to Maryland to the eastern shore town of Greensboro. There, they raised their children to adulthood. As time and events passed, Donna would come to wed her second husband, Roger Gambrell, Sr. in 2008, ultimately moving to their final home together in Maryland's town of Federalsburg. She was a homemaker, sometimes taking on odd jobs, and through the years, she enjoyed many hobbies. These include, but are not limited to: crocheting, reading, collecting decorative pieces, painting little figurines and ceramics, refinishing furniture, cooking delicious meals, watching mysteries and westerns on television, playing cards, lighthearted gossip, and raising of a plethora of much-adored animals, like cats, various breeds of dog such as poodles and labradors, and even a couple of well-trained birds. She was a Christian woman and had a sense of humor that few will forget. Her dancing, singing, and quick-witted jokes lit up any room with laughter, which remained steadfast traits of hers all the way until the very end, despite her illness. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed, but joy can be taken by the unworried utterance of her own words: "I know where I'm going." And that place is straight into the arms of her Savior, Jesus, where she rests in everlasting peace and comfort, no doubt entertaining and setting smiles upon the faces of those who've gone before her, even now. Donna is predeceased by her parents; siblings, Linda Smoot, Larry Jones, and Wanda Poggi, as well as her labrador, Marley. She is survived by her husband, Roger S. Gambrell Sr.; siblings, Charles (Christina) Jones, Cheryl Karasek, and Sharon (Will) Schautz; children, Wendy (Lou) Connatser, Shannon (Maria) Myers, Scott (Deanna Hyland) Myers; stepchildren, Roger S. Gambrell, Jr., Jennifer Shull, and Julie (Ross Beach) Bauguess; grandchildren, Louie (Rebekah) Connatser, Ethan Myers, and Sophia Myers; great grandchildren, Autumn Connatser and Rayden Connatser; step-grandchildren Aaron, Regen, Jerri Lynn and Devin; many nieces and nephews and her beloved Shihtzu, Precious. Much appreciation goes out to the doctors and nurses that helped take care of her over the past few years. One nurse in particular that deserves special recognition is Amy Bickling, head nurse at oncology where she received her treatments. Amy was also Donna's former daughter-in-law which made her much more at ease with visits. Her hospice care team were wonderful as well in taking care of her for the final few weeks of her life. And a special thank you to the faithful prayer warriors of Refuge Christian Fellowship Church. They were a tremendous blessing and comfort to her, Sweet By and By There's a land that is fairer than day, and by faith we can see it afar; for the Father waits over the way to prepare us a dwelling place there.
