Ms. Barbara Jean Vermillion

Barbara Jean Vermillion, 77, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 16, 2020 at the Univ of MD Shore Medical Center at Chestertown. Those who knew Barbara knew that she was a strong woman in many ways; she was a fighter. Over the past ten years she suffered from several illnesses that eventually disabled her. She was residing at Autumn Lake Healthcare in Chestertown, Maryland. Barbara lost her fight for her life due to complications of the COVID-19 Virus. Barbara Jean Pelton was born September 28,1942 to Dorothy Jean and Charles Edward Pelton in Louisville, Kentucky. Growing up as a daughter of an officer in the United States Army she traveled and lived many places including Germany. Her senior year of high school she moved back to the states and graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1960. She chose to plant her roots in Maryland. Shortly after she graduated, she married her first husband, her high school sweetheart Jules Cornet. On June 12,1966 she married her second husband Carl “Ray” Vermillion they were married for 33 years. Barbara and Ray moved in 1976 to the eastern shore to fulfill their dream of farm living. Barbara thoroughly enjoyed the farm life. She loved being a homemaker. She thoroughly enjoyed animals, gardening, canning, and any type of crafting or knitting. On May 25,1979 she gave birth to her daughter Kristy, the joy of her life. Through the years she was involved in several different organizations. Being an active member in her community she was a Girl Scout leader and a 4-H leader. Barbara's joy was her daughter and her grandchildren. She also enjoyed the many activities they had gotten into especially the 4-H projects. She was a member of the Masonic family, Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #69 Centreville, where she served many offices and served on many committees. She was also involved in Jobs Daughters Bethel #10. One thing is for sure she kept not only her daughter active in all the above-mentioned organizations, but she too was very active passing her leadership skills in the community right down to her daughter. Barbara worked many years as a bookkeeper. She enjoyed watching her favorite TV shows, following the Baltimore Orioles and Baltimore Ravens so she could discuss the games with her son in law. She also enjoyed her quiet time while reading. She is survived by her daughter Kristy Lynn Winborne, son-in-law John Winborne, grandson Hayden Winborne and granddaughter Kolby Lynn Winborne. Please keep in mind, the Coronavirus has impacted our everyday lives and sadly this also affects the ability for family and loved ones to gather and pay their respect in traditional ways. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Barclay Assembly of God-111 Busic Church Road, Barclay MD.
